Substance Use & Addiction Therapy

You don't have to lose everything before you decide something needs to change.

Maybe you're drinking more than you used to.

Maybe you've tried to cut back and keep finding yourself in the same pattern.

Maybe substances have become the easiest way to shut off your brain, deal with stress, sleep, socialize, or avoid thinking about something you'd rather not feel.

Or maybe you're already in recovery and want support staying there.

Wherever you are in the process, Fernandina Beach Therapy offers a judgment-free place to talk honestly about substance use, addiction, recovery, and the mental health concerns that often come with them.

With a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor II (CADC II) on our team, we can provide specialized support for individuals navigating substance-use concerns and recovery.

“Is It Actually a Problem?”

That's one of the most common questions people ask.

You don't need to have a dramatic “rock bottom” story before looking at your relationship with alcohol or other substances.

You might be noticing:

  • You're using more frequently or in larger amounts

  • You've tried to cut back without much success

  • You use alcohol or substances to manage stress or emotions

  • People close to you have expressed concern

  • You're hiding or minimizing how much you're using

  • Your relationships are being affected

  • You regret things you've said or done while using

  • You need more than you used to experience the same effect

  • You're planning your activities around drinking or using

  • You've stopped before but returned to use

  • You feel anxious about the idea of not having access to it

  • You're beginning to wonder whether something needs to change

You don't have to diagnose yourself before reaching out.

Sometimes the first step is simply having an honest conversation about what's happening.

No Lectures. No Shame.

If shame alone fixed addiction, recovery would be easy.

Our approach is different.

We want to understand what's underneath the behavior.

What does using do for you?

Does it quiet your anxiety?

Help you sleep?

Make social situations easier?

Give you a break from difficult memories?

Help you escape when everything feels like too much?

Understanding the role substances have played in your life can help you begin developing healthier ways to meet those same needs.

Therapy isn't about reducing you to a diagnosis or a behavior.

It's about understanding the whole person.

Substance Use Rarely Exists in a Vacuum

For many people, substance use overlaps with other mental health concerns.

You may also be navigating:

  • Anxiety or panic

  • Depression

  • Trauma or PTSD

  • ADHD

  • Grief and loss

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Anger or emotional regulation

  • Chronic stress

  • Burnout

  • Loneliness or isolation

  • Family conflict

  • Major life transitions

Addressing the substance without understanding what's driving the behavior can leave an important part of the picture untreated.

Our team can help you explore those connections while developing healthier strategies for managing what's happening underneath them.

Already in Recovery?

Stopping can be one challenge.

Learning how to live differently afterward can be another.

Recovery support may include identifying triggers, strengthening coping skills, developing healthier routines, navigating relationships, recognizing early warning signs, managing difficult emotions, and creating plans for high-risk situations.

Therapy can also provide space to work through the things that may become more noticeable once substances are no longer being used to cope.

And if you've experienced a setback?

That doesn't erase the progress you've made.

We can look at what happened, understand what contributed to it, and use that information to strengthen your recovery moving forward.

What If I'm Not Ready to Stop?

You can still reach out.

You don't have to walk through our doors already knowing exactly what you want.

Maybe part of you wants things to change while another part isn't sure.

That's worth talking about.

Rather than starting with “What are you doing wrong?” we can start with:

“What do you want your life to look like?”

Then we can explore whether your current relationship with substances is helping you get there.

Specialized Substance Use Support

Having a CADC II on our team allows Fernandina Beach Therapy to offer specialized support for individuals navigating alcohol and drug concerns, problematic patterns of use, recovery, relapse prevention, and the emotional concerns that often accompany substance use.

Your treatment isn't one-size-fits-all.

We'll work to understand your experiences, goals, strengths, challenges, and current needs so treatment can be tailored to you.

When You Need More Support Than Outpatient Care

There are times when weekly outpatient services aren't the appropriate level of care.

Someone experiencing significant withdrawal risk, medical complications, severe substance dependence, or a need for medically supervised detoxification may require specialized or more intensive treatment.

When that's the case, getting the appropriate level of care matters.

Our goal isn't simply to get you through our door.

It's to help you get connected with the level of support you actually need.

You Can Start Before Things Get Worse

You don't need to wait for another argument.

Another morning wondering what happened.

Another promise to yourself that this time will be different.

Or another attempt to handle everything alone.

Sometimes change starts with one uncomfortable but important realization:

“I think I need some help with this.”

That's enough to start the conversation.

Reach out to Fernandina Beach Therapy and tell us a little about what's going on. We'll help determine the next step and connect you with the appropriate member of our team.

Your past doesn't disqualify you from building something different.
