Anxiety Therapy
When your brain won’t turn off, everything can feel harder.
Maybe you replay conversations long after they’re over. You think through every possible outcome before making a decision. Your body feels tense even when nothing is technically wrong. Or maybe you’ve gotten really good at looking calm on the outside while your mind is running a mile a minute.
Anxiety can show up in a lot of ways—and you don’t have to wait until it becomes overwhelming to get support.
At Fernandina Beach Therapy, our therapists help children, teens, and adults better understand anxiety, develop practical tools to manage it, and feel more confident navigating everyday life.
Does this sound familiar?
Anxiety isn't always a panic attack. Sometimes it looks like:
-
Overthinking everything you said or did
-
Constantly asking, “What if…?”
-
Feeling like you need to prepare for every possible outcome
-
Trouble falling asleep because your brain suddenly remembers everything
-
Avoiding situations because they feel too uncomfortable
-
Irritability, restlessness, or feeling constantly on edge
-
Stomachaches, headaches, muscle tension, or a racing heart
-
Perfectionism and fear of making mistakes
-
Needing reassurance that everything is okay
-
Feeling exhausted from trying to keep it all together
You might even know your anxiety isn't always logical—and still struggle to make it stop.
That's where therapy can help.
Therapy That Goes Beyond “Just Stop Worrying”
We know. If you could simply stop overthinking, you probably would have done that already.
Anxiety therapy isn't about telling you to “calm down” or pretending stressful things don't exist. It's about understanding what your brain and body are doing, recognizing the patterns that keep anxiety going, and building strategies that actually work in your life.
Depending on your needs and your therapist, treatment may incorporate approaches such as CBT, DBT, ACT, mindfulness, exposure-based strategies, play-based interventions, and EMDR.
Together, we can work on things like managing anxious thoughts, reducing avoidance, handling uncertainty, regulating your nervous system, setting boundaries, building confidence, and responding differently when anxiety shows up.
Anxiety Looks Different at Every Age
For children, anxiety might look like stomachaches before school, meltdowns, difficulty separating from caregivers, bedtime struggles, perfectionism, or avoiding new experiences. Our therapists use developmentally appropriate and play-based approaches to help kids understand their emotions and build coping skills.
For teens, anxiety can become tangled up with friendships, grades, sports, identity, family expectations, social media, and uncertainty about the future. Therapy gives teens a space to talk openly while learning practical skills they can use outside the therapy room.
For adults, anxiety might look like overthinking at work, relationship worries, burnout, people-pleasing, panic attacks, difficulty setting boundaries, or lying awake at 2 a.m. mentally reviewing tomorrow's entire schedule. Therapy can help you recognize those patterns and develop healthier ways of responding to them.
You Don't Have to Become an Anxiety-Free Person
The goal isn't necessarily to never feel anxious again.
Anxiety is a normal human emotion. The goal is to get to a place where anxiety isn't making all the decisions for you.
Imagine being able to notice an anxious thought without immediately believing it. To handle uncertainty without spending hours preparing for every possible scenario. To do something uncomfortable without automatically avoiding it. To feel anxious—and still know you can handle what comes next.
That's the kind of progress we work toward.
